USM Spring Band Concert
The University of Saint Mary Community Band will present a lively evening of music with the annual Spring Band Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Saint Joseph Dining Hall on the university’s Leavenworth Campus, 4100 South 4th Street.
Admission to the concert is free.
The Saint Mary Community Band is under the direction of Saint Mary Assistant Professor of Music Freda Proctor.
The evening’s program includes Trittico by Nelhybel, the Danse Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns’ Samson and Delilah, the Light Cavalry Overture by von Suppé, the Overture to Il Re Pastore by Mozart, Holst’s First Suite in E Flat, and Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunt by Ravel.
Warrant Officer Nicholas Proctor, from the 312th Army Band out of Lawrence, Kan., will be the featured trumpet soloist with the band for a performance of La Virgen de la Macarena. Nicholas, who is the son of Wallace and Freda Proctor, is the instrumental music instructor at the Paola Middle and High Schools.
The program will conclude with Sousa’s most famous march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.
The Saint Mary Community Band is made up of USM students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as amateur and professional community musicians.
