Dr. Candy Bahner graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in physical therapy. She holds a master of science degree in education from Pittsburg State University and a doctor of physical therapy degree from Simmons College in Boston.
She has been a practicing physical therapist for over 35 years, and involved in teaching and administration in physical therapy education at the graduate and undergraduate levels for 22 of those.
Dr. Bahner has worked in various practice settings (pediatric, urban hospital, rural hospitals, private consulting, outpatient, and private practice clinics) and in academics. Not only has Dr. Bahner been the executive director for Rebound Physical Therapy, Inc. (Topeka, Kan.), she served as the director and the academic coordinator of clinical education for the physical therapist assistant program at Washburn University. Dr. Bahner also was the director of clinical education and assistant chair of the doctor of physical therapy program at Wichita State University.
She maintains an understanding of contemporary physical therapy practice, quality clinical education, the clinical community, and the health care delivery system through her time spent working in the clinic and her active involvement in the Kansas Physical Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Currently, she serves as the programming committee chair on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Physical Therapy Association—and since 2006, Dr. Bahner has been an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor and Trainer. She is also a reader consultant and on-site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
