Location: Leavenworth, KS Campus
The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics and supports various healthcare programs. This position is in the Biology program, and involves teaching Microbiology, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics and Immunology. May also teach additional core Biology courses as appropriate. Participates in the continual review and improvement of program curriculum. Advises students, serves on university committees and participates in service activities in support of the university.
Prepare and deliver interactive lectures/student engaging activities in program courses.
Assist with the determination and development of new courses in the program.
Evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and teaching methods, as required in the maintenance of high-quality and relevant programs of study.
Assist in the preparation of semester schedules, selection of textbooks/digital media, and program planning.
Hold regularly scheduled office hours to advise and provide guidance to students in their pursuit of a degree.
Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities as appropriate.
Compile and administer examinations to assess student learning and progress.
Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading and reviewing current literature, collaboration with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.
Maintain records as required for student attendance, advising, and grading.
Participate in campus and community events.
Advise and/or work with student organizations as needed.
Perform additional job related duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, 9 month, tenure track assistant professor position. Anticipated start date is Fall, 2016. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Doctorate in Biological Sciences.
Previous teaching experience preferred.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact and effectively work and teach in a multicultural environment.
Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary.
Must pass required background screen as appropriate.
