General Description:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department is a close, collegial faculty dedicated to the teaching-learning relationship. Candidates should be attracted to this type of environment. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. The position is in the Chemistry and Physics Program and involves providing support to faculty teaching labs.


Requirements:

  • Supervision of work study students including their hiring and their day to day management, including evaluation and completion of their bi weekly timesheets.

  • Provide chemical safety instruction to all student employees.

  • Ordering of laboratory supplies in a timely fashion and maintenance of budgetary records.

  • Coordinating with chemistry and physics faculty and setting up labs for them (approximately six labs for 4 courses each semester).

  • Cleaning up after labs.

  • Maintenance of both chemistry and physics equipment including safety equipment.

  • Maintenance of chemical and equipment inventories.

  • Maintain personal protective equipment, spill response, and first aid inventory.

  • Performing routine maintenance on instruments such as ordering and changing desiccants and operating gases.

  • Develop and maintain the chemical hygiene plan and ensure that its requirements are being met.

  • Other duties assigned by the Department Chair or Program Director

  • Affinity with the Mission of the University of Saint Mary


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field (with at least two years of college level Chemistry)

  • Experience with office software is highly recommended and desirable.

  • Candidates will be expected to be able to work under minimal supervision, possess a strong work ethic and demonstrate initiative.


Contract:
Position start date is January 15th 2018. The Search Committee will evaluate applications on an on-going basis until a suitable candidate is identified.
