(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has named University of Saint Mary Men’s Basketball player Grant Greenberg, of Leavenworth, Kan., as KCAC Player of the Week for turning in a record-setting performance in helping the Spires to back-to-back wins over the weekend.

Greenberg, a 6’2” freshman guard, led the Spires to an undefeated weekend, going 2-0 in the KCAC/HAAC Classic. In USM’s 97-91 win against Baker on Friday, Greenberg recorded 48 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

His 48 points set a school record for points in a game. He was 9 of 15 in field goals, 1 of 4 in three-point field goals, and 29 for 32 from the free throw line.

In USM’s 93-85 win against Peru State on Saturday, Greenberg finished with 20 points, one assist, and two steals on 4 for 7 shooting and 12 for 12 on free throws.

USM Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Bishop praised Greenberg’s efforts during last weekend’s contest

“Grant had a fantastic weekend for us and was instrumental in our two wins in the KCAC-HAAC Classic,” Coach Bishop said. “His play down the stretch of both games were terrific.”

“It’s a little mind-blowing that he set a school record for most points (48), most FT’s attempted (32), and most FT’s made (29)  in a game in just his second collegiate outing. But if you watched how he prepares every single day to be successful, you would understand. I’ve never been around a player that works as hard as he does—and fortunately for us he is going to get even better as he goes.”

The USM Men’s Basketball Team is currently 2-1 on the season, with KCAC play not getting underway until next month. Up next for the Spires: the USM home opener against Avila University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Saint Mary has 12 varsity sports programs—football, volleyball, baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, cross country, and track & field—along with co-ed cheerleading and dance. Visit to learn more about USM athletics.
