Exhibits Open Feb. 8 & 15 | Goppert Gallery

(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The University of Saint Mary this month will present a pair of art exhibitions, starting with a professional show by Michael Kellner, a visiting artist from Columbus, Ohio, that opens with an artist’s reception at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. The following Friday, Feb. 15, USM will unveil the Student Art Majors Project—in which students worked in collaboration with Kellner on the exhibit.

Both shows will run through March 22. The shows are free and open to the public and will be displayed in Goppert Gallery on the USM main campus in Leavenworth at 4100 South 4th Street.

During the month-long show, the gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kellner has a BFA from the University of Louisville and an MFA from the University of Cincinnati. He is currently working on his doctorate in the Arts Administration, Education and Policy program at the Ohio State University. His dissertation is dealing with creativity as a philosophical, psychological, and historical concept.

Susan Nelson, associate professor of art at USM, said Saint Mary students have worked very hard on the exhibit, and the collaboration has produced remarkable results.

“This will be an exciting opportunity for the audience to experience various methods and processes of creating art—breaking the boundaries of tradition art-making,” Nelson said. “We’re looking at ‘Where does art come from?  What is the visual result?  How is the viewer involved?’”
