KCAC Honors 4 USM Student-Athletes

(Leavenworth, Kan.)—Four University of Saint Mary student-athletes from the Spires Soccer Teams—two each from the men’s team and the women’s team—have been named to all-conference teams by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) for their play during the recently-concluded regular season.

From the Saint Mary Men’s Soccer Team, midfielder Gerdson Lubin, a junior from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was named to the KCAC All-Conference 2nd Team. And midfielder Colin Janicek, a sophomore from Columbia, Mo., was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention.

The honorees from the Women’s Team are Jennifer Nye, a junior forward from Lansing, Kan., and Ashley Wilcox, a freshman midfielder also from Lansing, Kan. Both were named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

USM Head Women’s Soccer Coach Justin Seever praised his players.

“Ashley Wilcox was a highly sought-after recruit, and she did not disappoint in her freshmen campaign,” Coach Seever said. “Ashley was very consistent all season and it showed with her being recognized as an Honorable Mention all-KCAC midfielder this season. We are looking forward to her growth as a player and a leader in the coming years.

“Jennifer Nye, while suffering a setback due to injury for the vast majority of the season, was still able to come on strong, logging three goals and two assists in conference play,” Coach Seever said. “Last season, Jen was a First Team All-KCAC forward and was once again recognized by making the honorable mention team this season. When healthy, Jen is easily one of the top goal scorers in our conference, and we are looking forward to seeing her senior season.”

USM Head Men’s Soccer Coach Derek Mazeitis had this to say about his honorees:

“Gerdson Lubin is a solid player with a nose for the back of the net,” Coach Mazeitis said. “He was our leading goalscorer this year.

“Colin Janicek understands the field and makes his teammates better by being out there and being a playmaker.”
