7:30 p.m. April 10, 11 & 12 | Xavier Theatre
(Leavenworth, Kan.)—This week, the curtain rises on the University of Saint Mary theatre program production of “A Little Night Music”—a Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim musical—at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, April 12, in Xavier Theatre on the USM main campus in Leavenworth at 4100 South 4th Street.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and can be purchased in advance by calling 913-758-6152. “A Little Night Music” is not recommended for children.
“A Little Night Music” debuted on Broadway in 1973, and was inspired by the film “Smiles of a Summer Night” directed by Ingmar Bergman and looks at the lives of several couples.
“This musical was chosen to give the students an opportunity to experience performance of a Stephen Sondheim musical,” said Van Ibsen, director of the USM theatre program. “His music and lyrics are challenging yet very fun. The lyrics are especially accessible and contemporary although based on the plays of Anton Chekhov, which are a century old. The students study Chekhov and so this musical has been fun in terms of figuring out what characters are included and from which of the plays.”
The cast of the play features Saint Mary students Anthony Clouse, of Leavenworth, Kan.; Sarah Cronkleton-Kidd, of Gladstone, Mo.; Jasmin Crowder, of Leavenworth, Kan.; Sarah DaMetz, of Lansing, Kan.; Amanda Jacobs of Leavenworth, Kan.; Mitchell Ludwig, of Gladstone, Mo.; Alyssa Papageorgiou, of Kansas City, Kan.; Alex Pedroza, of Basehor, Kan.; Ben Sanders, of Wichita, Kan.; and Hayley Webb, of Basehor, Kan.
