(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has recognized four University of Saint Mary Spires winter sports athletes as All-KCAC Champions of Character—student-athletes who best exemplify the core values of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) Champions of Character Program.

The NAIA Champions of Character program honors students who display five core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. Each season, coaches in the KCAC are asked to nominate one student-athlete from their team who best exemplifies those core values.

The winning Spires are:

• Men’s Basketball player Carson Long, a junior guard from Graham, Mo.
• Women’s Basketball player Tracie Weege, a senior guard from Baldwin, Kan.
• Track & Field athlete Omar Delgado, a freshman from Castroville, Calif.
• Track & Field athlete Samantha Winter, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb.

“We stress values at the University of Saint Mary, and we’re proud of our student-athletes who personify those values,” USM Athletic Director Rob Miller said.

Saint Mary has 12 varsity sports programs—football, volleyball, baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, cross country, and track & field—along with co-ed cheerleading and dance. Visit www.gospires.com to learn more about USM athletics.
