(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The University of Saint Mary education department is holding the latest in the school’s series of free networking events from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Mabee Auditorium on USM’s main Leavenworth campus at 4100 South 4th Street. Jessica Brushwood, school liaison officer with Fort Leavenworth, will lead a discussion on the event on Military-Connected Students: Meeting Their Unique Needs.

The event is free, but seating is limited. RSVP for the event at or call 913-758-6116.

Attendees will be able to network with other educators and enjoy light refreshments.

Participants will also get the chance to learn about how they can advance both their education and their careers with USM’s education programs. Saint Mary offers both a Master of Arts in Education and a fully-online Master of Arts in Teaching degree, as well as regular for-credit education workshops, bachelor’s degree programs in elementary education and child development education, and a teacher licensure program.

As school liaison officer for Fort Leavenworth, Jessica Brushwood works with military families and their students to help address education-related challenges.

“Attendees will be able to learn about how they and their district can tackle the unique needs of military students at this special event just for educators,” said Dr. Gwen Landever, chair of USM’s education department. “The event is also part of the university’s participation in Operation: Educate the Educator, an initiative of the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education.”
