USM Music Ensembles Present an Evening of Chamber Music

(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The University of Saint Mary instrumental ensembles will entertain music lovers with An Evening of Chamber Music at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in Annunciation Chapel on USM’s Leavenworth Campus, 4100 South 4th Street.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Several ensembles of student and community musicians, under the direction of Freda Proctor, USM assistant professor and director of instrumental music studies, will perform at the event.

The evening’s program includes two well-known compositions by Vivaldi. The USM string ensemble will perform Spring from The Four Season Concerto, with Jillian Warman as violin soloist. Dr. Jared Prost and Kevin Miller, assisted by Freda Proctor at the organ, will play the double Trumpet Concerto in C.

A full woodwind choir will perform Folk Song #1 composed by Warren Sickel. The flute choir will present Bach’s Air from the Suite in D. The program will also include a flute trio and saxophone duet.

The brass ensemble will perform movements of Handel’s Water Music, as well as an arrangement of Handel’s Largo from Xerxes. The horn section will present Andante Cantabile from Tschaikowsky’s Fifth Symphony.
