(Leavenworth, Kan.)—Two Leavenworth natives from the Department of Fine Arts-Music Preparatory Division at the University of Saint Mary have been named to the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) 2014 All-State Choir.
The honored students are Marshall Hopkins and Katie Nelson, both Leavenworth High School students who are studying voice privately with Dr. William Krusemark, chair of fine arts at USM. This is the second consecutive year Hopkins, a soprano, and Marshall, a tenor, have earned the honor.
As part of the recognition, the Kansas All-State High School Choir will perform at the KMEA convention in Wichita, Kan., on March 1.
“Both Marshall and Katie are exceptional scholar-musicians who have worked diligently for several years to develop their voices and musical skills,” Dr. Krusemark said. “Their achievement is also a testament to the quality of the music program at Leavenworth High and the guidance and instruction offered by their fine choral teacher Mrs. Connie Baxter.”
