(Leavenworth, Kan.)—University of Saint Mary Spires senior Jordan Wilcox earned Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) for his impressive offensive output in the Spires 80-70 win over Haskell Indian Nations University on Dec. 15.
Wilcox, a guard out of Holcomb, Kan., shot over 50 percent from the field and went 7-of-12 from three-point range against Haskell. He also scored 31 points, pulled down four rebounds, and kicked in four assists and three steals in the win.
The game marked Wilcox’s second 30-point outing of the season. Wilcox is first in the KCAC in free throw percentage, with 89 percent, and third in three-point field goal percentage, with 43 percent. He also leads the Spires in minutes played, scoring, and steals.
"I thought Jordan played one of the best games of his career last Saturday against Haskell,” said USM Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Bishop. “He is one of the best shooters I've ever coached, and he really tore their zone apart, making seven three-point shots in a game where we needed him to make shots. There was a point in the second half where they made a run at us, but Jordan stepped up and basically kept them at length."
"Jordan has really stepped up not only his game but also his leadership qualities this year,” Coach Bishop said. “He's been a different player and it's showing both on and off the court for him this year.”
The Spires Men’s Basketball Team is currently 4-0 in conference play—good for first in the KCAC—and 9-5 overall on the season. The team’s next game is on the road against conference opponent McPherson College at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3.
