Besides already sold-out weekday matinée offerings, the production has extremely limited seating available for two evening shows, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, and two afternoon shows at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.

USM’s production of Cinderella is based on the Rodgers & Hammerstein version that debuted on television in 1957. The rendition combines the warmth and uplift of the timeless tale of triumph with humor that both children and adults can appreciate.
“We always choose a classic story for this time of year, a play that the whole family can enjoy,” said Van Ibsen, director of USM’s theatre program. “The students look forward to this production every year… the combination of Christmas spirit and the laughter of children in the audience is something they don’t want to miss.”
This year’s holiday play features nine performances over four days and “is an excellent teaching tool for the students,” Ibsen said. “Ticket sales are brisk.”
Ibsen added that “we would like recognize the Leavenworth/Lansing community and their continued patronage of our seasonal production, especially the elementary schools. Each year we accommodate over 1,400 children, teachers, and parents from over 10 different local schools. We would also like to give a special nod to the Kansas City-area Girl Scouts. Each year they buy three performances of our Christmas production, for a total of 1050 seats! They have been buying these performances for more than 25 years.
“This year there are so many troops wanting to participate, we are accommodating them at our evening performances as well. It has become such a tradition that when the girls grow up, they still want to attend. This year, we will be hosting Girl Scout families with three generations that have made our Christmas show a part of their holiday tradition and they have the photographs to prove it.”
The cast of the play includes Saint Mary students Sarah DaMetz as Cinderella, Alyssa Dunning as the Stepmother, Sarah Cronkleton-Kidd as the Fairy Godmother, Ben Sanders as the Prince, and Chelsey Breshears, Hayley Webb, Emily Nold, Maureen Kennedy, and Gemma Maliszewski as the Stepsisters.
