Honors Academic Scholarship


The University of Saint Mary recognizes hard work and dedication in the classroom. Students committed to the Honors Program earn a renewable $2,000/year scholarship—in addition to other academic and merit scholarships.


Honors Steward Scholarships


The Honors Steward Scholarships recognizes (and rewards) students for demonstrating an exemplary record of engagement, leadership, and service to their classmates and to the commitment of excellence in their academic lives.

To apply for the competitive Honors Steward Scholarships, any current or incoming Honors student must meet the following criteria.
 

  • Possess a sustained commitment to the goals of education by maintaining the minimum standards for the USM Honors Program without ever being placed on Honors Probation (below 3.7 GPA)

  • Demonstrate clear and recognizable leadership and service activities to the academic community. To demonstrate these activities, students are expected to submit a portfolio consisting of:

  • a. A 1-2 page cover letter outlining several of their achievements in leadership and service.

  • b. Several examples of service or leadership through image, written, or video format.

  • c. A written proposal for continued service or leadership roles and activities at Saint Mary.

  • d. Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references—highlighting academic interests and engagement, service, and leadership.

Deadline: All documents must sent to Dr. O’Leary, Honors director, by March 1. Applicants will be notified by April 1 of the Committee’s decision.
 



“Reach for the Spires” Award

The “Reach for the Spires” Award Program recognizes outstanding Honors students going above and beyond—who reach further—than the requirements of their Honors careers.

All “Reach for the Spires” Awards will be conferred by the USM Honors Director in consultation with the Honors Committee. Any USM Faculty or Staff member is invited to nominate an Honors student for this prestigious award by contacting the Honors Director with a brief explanation.


Students must meet the following criteria:
 

  • A current member of the Honors Community,

  • Demonstrates clear examples of service or leadership,

  • Service or leadership is directed toward members of the USM Community, and

  • Expression of service or leadership is self-directed—and not at the behest/guidance of other members of the USM Community.

Deadline: All documents must sent to Dr. O’Leary, Honors director, by March 1. Applicants will be notified by April 1 of the Committee’s decision.
