How to request a transcript

A transcript is a certified official copy of a student’s permanent academic record. By law it cannot be released to anyone other than the student without the student’s written permission. The written permission must identify by name the person authorized to obtain the transcript and must have the student’s original signature.

Some things to know before you order a transcript:


  • The University of Saint Mary has partnered with the National Student Clearinghouse to offer a secure way to order and send USM transcripts. As such, USM can send transcripts through the NSC electronically. Students can also request a hard copy of their transcript for pick up or mail.

  • A transcript picked up by or sent directly to a student is always stamped “issued to student” and placed in a sealed envelope. Not all institutions will accept this type of transcript as official.

  • If a hold has been placed on the student’s record by any USM department (business office, financial aid office, library, athletics) a transcript will not be issued.

  • We cannot accept a transcript request by phone or in the body of an email. All transcript requests should go through the University of Saint Mary Transcript Request page.

  • There is a $10 processing fee for all official transcripts. Overnight and Express delivery options are $19.99. Additional National Student Clearinghouse fees may apply.

  • Current students must indicate if the transcript should be held for semester grades or until his/her degree is posted.
