Benefits info and other resources for veterans and active duty

The Federal government provides a variety of benefit programs for veterans and students with military obligations.

This list includes a number of the more frequently used programs, but should not be considered exhaustive. Please check out the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefits page for a more complete overview.

Please keep in mind that any benefits you receive must be reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Chapter 33, the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill. Click here to visit USM's page on Post-9/11 G.I. Bill eligibility.
Chapter 31, for disabled veterans. Download a Chapter 31 Data Sheet.
Chapter 30, the Montgomery G.I. Bill for active-duty and previously active-duty military
The DEA program, for the dependents of totally disabled or deceased veterans
The REAP program, for National Guard or reservists called up to active duty
The Reserve G.I. Bill, for other reservists

The VA has also established a seamless transition website to better explain benefits for veterans returning from active duty.

Communication for Cooperation

Communicating with others in the school setting is essential to gain cooperation of parents, students, colleagues, and administrators. This course is designed to give you effective strategies to use with parents, students, colleagues and administrators to make your communications more effective, leading to cooperation from each of those groups. After investigating our own current practices, we’ll learn additional techniques to broaden the definition, possibilities, and strategies for communicating with each of these groups. Class participants will develop an action plan for communication that fits their individual needs and styles.
