Janet (Vosburgh) Smedsrud, C’81, Shelby, Mont., retired at the end of the 2011-2012 school year after a distinguished, 30-year career teaching. The Shelby High School teacher began her career as a middle school home economics teacher. Her tenure earned her distinctions as a “Tireless Teacher” nominee and Teacher of the Year award winner.
Justin R. Jones, C’83, Kansas City, Mo., was appointed senior vice president of loan operations and administration for Country Club Bank. Justin’s responsibilities encompass commercial and retail lending and credit administration.
Francine Orr, C’86, Los Angeles, and photojournalist for the Los Angeles Times, continues to excel in her field, recently earning two top honors.
Francine was one of the three finalists in most recent Pulitzer Prize Contest for Photo Journalism. This was the third Pulitzer nomination for Francine, but the first time her work has made the top three.
Francine’s managing editor recognized her work at a special meeting of the entire staff of the paper. He has since asked her to write as well as shoot pictures.
Francine was also part of the Times team that won a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism for their multimedia package Discovering Autism. The Casey awards honor distinguished coverage of disadvantaged children, youth, and families. Learn more at www.latimes.com/news/local/autism/.
