associate professor of art
Susan Nelson, associate professor of art at the University of Saint Mary, joined the faculty at USM in 1992. Nelson was honored with the Sullivan Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009. Her primary media for artistic expression is clay.
Her passion is creating objects of beauty which function within living spaces and enhance daily life. In addition, Nelson intensely studies art history, including Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Pre-Columbian Peruvian, and Minoan pottery, which has significantly influenced her ceramic works. She is the past recipient of multiple grants from the Kansas Arts Commission
Nelson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Kansas.
