Sister Mary O'Rourke

Sister Mary O’Rourke is twice an alumna of the University of Saint Mary, having earned her B.S. as a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics and M.A. in Education.  She then went on to do post-graduate work at the University of Notre Dame, completing her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry.

During her tenure at Saint Mary as full professor of chemistry, she served as project director for multiple grants.  These workshops with follow-up sessions benefited more than 450 science and chemistry teachers.

Sister Mary O’ returned to the USM campus in 2007 after teaching ten years in Kansas City at Rockhurst University and Penn Valley Community College.  She now teaches physical science courses for non-science majors and assists with laboratory and seminar courses.  When she renewed her amateur radio credentials in 2011, it became possible for Saint Mary to have its own ham station, KS0USM, in the Miege Sky Lab.
