Betty Lou Stefani was born in 1925 in Butte, Mont., one of four daughters of Daniel and Catherine Malloy Stefani.

Betty Lou entered the SCL community in 1945, and made her profession of vows as Sister Mary Kathleen two years later.

She was a 1951 graduate of Saint Mary College, receiving her degree in chemistry. She went on to earn more degrees, including a master’s in secondary education-physics from USM and a master’s in chemistry from Notre Dame.

Sister Mary Kathleen was an artful teacher and leader, instructing and working as an administrator at schools in Denver, Billings, Mont., and Kansas.

She was elected SCL community director in 1986, holding that post through 1998. Most recently, she served as assistant to the Mother House administrator beginning in 2002, and volunteered at Saint Vincent Clinic.

She passed away in 2010 at 84 after a lifetime spent educating young people and leading the SCL community.
