Chair, History, Political Science and Global Studies

Dr. Ken Mulliken, chair of the department of history, political science, and global studies, has taught at the University of Saint Mary since 2003. Mulliken earned the Sullivan Award for Teaching Excellence in 2006, and is described by students as “demanding but fair,” “enthusiastic about American history,” and “extraordinarily energetic, creative, and fun.”

Mulliken is actively involved in several academic associations, including the American History Association and the International Studies Association. He is the campus sponsor of Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society, and involves students directly in regional and national conferences, including supervised student trips to Montreal, Moscow, Tokyo, and Washington D.C.

As a Board Examiner for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and a Program Reviewer for the Kansas State Department of Education, Mulliken is dedicated to solid academic fundamentals and is committed to student success. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in history from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, his Master’s degree in history from Columbia and his Ph.D. in history from University of Missouri – Kansas City.
