Welcome to USM. As a new student to the university, we have several important dates for you to know. Please review this page and others to help guide you through your USM experience!
Important Information

Fall athletes: (Football, Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Cheer, Dance, and Cross Country ONLY), must check-in for New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. If you are a residential student, check-in if from 8:30 -10:30 a.m. on the 11th. If you are a commuter student, check-in is between 10:30 a.m.-noonon the 11th. All check-ins will take place in the Social Room (St. Mary Hall 204).

Incoming students: (Freshmen and transfers who are not fall athletes) will check-in for New Student Orientation on Saturday, August 18, 2012. If you are a residential student, check-in is between 8:30-10:30 a.m. on the 18th. If you are a commuter student, check-in is between 10:30 a.m.-noon on the 18th. All check-ins will take place in the Social Room (St. Mary hall 204).
Please keep in mind that while the residence halls open at 8:30 a.m. on the respective check-in days, you MUST check-in, starting in the Social Room, prior to moving into the residence halls. Also, keep in mind that orientation is required for all new students. You will receive a full schedule of orientation events upon your arrival.
Please note, Matriculation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22. This is a ceremony welcoming all new students into the USM community and is a significant time for everyone. Please make sure to bring your Sunday best clothes for this event. And on Wednesday evening, we will be hosting a Welcome back bash for all students, new and returning, as well as faculty, staff, and administration. It will be a wonderful time for all the USM community to gather and get the academic year started!

Health Records: All incoming students (residential and commuter) are required to provide a completed Health History Form and Immunization Record. In addition, all residential students, international students, and athletes will have additional forms to complete on-line. All students can complete their information and/or upload their forms on-line at www.stmary.edu/Student-Life/Student-Wellness/Required-Medical-Forms.aspx. Required Immunizations: The meningitis vaccination is a required immunization for those residing in the residence halls, according to Kansas State law. The other required immunizations for all students are a Tetnus-Diptheria booster within the last 10 years, 2 doses of Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine, and a PPD TB test within the last 12 months. Other recommended vaccines are a primary series of Polio vaccine, 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, and Varicella vaccine (if you have not had chicken pox).

Health Insurance: All athletes, residential students and international students are required to have primary health insurance. If you are not currently covered by health insurance, please contact the Student Life Office (studentlife@stmary.edu). Athletes will also be required to purchase the University’s athletic insurance. Residential students will be enrolled in the Accident Policy carried by USM, unless proof of other insurance is provided. This Accident Policy only covers accidents that happen on campus and is not a substitute for health insurance.

Laptop Program: Freshmen will be issued their laptop during orientation if their account has been paid in full or if satisfactory arrangements have been made with the Business Office.
