2013-2014 USM Theatre Season


The University of Saint Mary theatre program’s 2013-2014 schedule of student productions features something for the entire family, from the classic tale Snow White to contemporary works by Neil LaBute and Jonathan Winters.

The new USM theatre season is as follows:

• Winters’ Tales, from a book by Jonathan Winters; edited for the stage by USM Theatre Program Director Van Ibsen—7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 11 & 12. Winters’ Tales is a tribute to the passing of comedian Winters, and is a theatrical presentation of selected stories from his book Winters’ Tales: Stories and Observations for the Unusual. This rollicking tour of the comedian’s expansive imagination includes intimate, revealing, and poignant recollections of childhood’s pains and love lost. Features adult themes. Not suitable for children.

• Snow White, adaptation by Van Ibsen – 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 & 7 with group and school matinees at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Dec. 5 & 6. The classic story you know and love, and the timeless characters you remember from childhood: Snow White, the wicked Queen, the Seven Dwarfs and the handsome Prince. This is a fairy tale the whole family will enjoy! For all ages.

• Reasons to be Pretty, by Neil LaBute– 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6, 7 & 8. The story of four friends, Greg, Steph, Kent, and Carly, whose relationships crumble as they are forced to confront a roiling sea of deceit, infidelity, and betrayed trust on their journey to answer that very American question: How much is “pretty” worth? Features adult themes. Not suitable for children.

• A Little Night Music, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; book by Hugh Wheeler – 7:30 p.m. April 10, 11 & 12. This musical adaptation of the Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night features a group of friends bound together by romantic entanglements and brought together by a dinner at a country estate. The men are the current, previous, or prospective lovers of the actress, Desiree. The women are all united by their jealousy of her. But, Desiree wants to simplify things. Features adult themes. Not suitable for children.

Saint Mary theatre productions are held in Xavier Theatre on USM’s Leavenworth campus 4100 South 4th Street. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are available at the door. Season tickets are available for $25.
