Clay is extremely versatile in that it remains malleable in the forming process and submits to a subtractive, additive, or modeling process seamlessly. In addition, the complex glazing and firing process provides ample opportunity for problem solving and research. The possibilities inherent in the material are, in fact, limitless.
The study of the history of art has been a tremendous influence on both the forms and glazes of the pieces I create. The intensive study of Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Pre-Columbian Peruvian, and Minoan pottery has nourished the growth in my work.
I enjoy creating objects of beauty which function within living spaces and enhance daily life. |

USM hosts approximately six art exhibits a year, two featuring student artwork, in our newly renovated Goppert Gallery.
“I try to be available to the students without getting in the way of their own ability to discover.”
