Most
dental schools require a minimum of two
to three years of undergraduate course
work prior to admission. However, many
students complete an undergraduate major
before seeking admission to a dental
school.
|
The
majority of dental schools affiliated
with the American Association of Dental
Schools (AADS) require course work
in:
- English
composition and/or literature
- two
years of chemistry (General Chemistry
I and II, Organic Chemistry I
and II)
- one
year of physics (Physics I and
II)
- one
or more courses in biology (Diversity
of Plants and Animals and Cell
Biology)
- mathematical
competence to support understanding
of science course content.
|
Since
requirements for admission vary from
school to school, students should examine
the requirements of the dental school
they wish to attend for more specific
information. Students must take the Dental
Association Test (DAT) administered by
the American Association of Dental Schools
as part of the application process.
Pre-dental students should contact the Pre-Health Professional/Pre-Medicine
Adviser at the University of Saint Mary early in the first semester of freshman
year for consultation regarding course selection.

USM Biology courses are taught 100% by knowledgeable, actual faculty, not graduate assistants.
“I believe students need to be challenged and supported in meeting those challenges. In the sciences, we challenge our students to reach their maximum potential.”
