Pre-Medicine |
| |
This
course of study is designed for students
planning to enter a medical school
upon graduation from the University
of Saint Mary.
|
Medical
schools generally require the following:
- completion
of a chosen major
- two
years of chemistry (General Chemistry
I and II, Organic Chemistry I
and II)
- one
year of physics (Physics I and
II)
- one
year of biology (Diversity of
Plants and Animals and Cell Biology)
- mathematical
competence to support understanding
of science courses
|
The
student may major in any academic field
of study. The selection of courses is
based upon the requirements for admission
to the Schools of Medicine as adopted
by the Association of American Medical
Colleges (AAMC). Since the
entrance requirements are not uniform,
students should examine the requirements
of the school of medicine they wish to
attend.
The Medical College Aptitude Test (MCAT), prepared by the Association of American
Medical Colleges, is required of students as part of the application for acceptance
into a school of medicine.
Pre-medical students should contact the Pre-Medicine Adviser at the University
of Saint Mary early in the first semester of freshman year for consultation
on course selection.
|
| The
pre-medicine sequence is also appropriate
undergraduate study for podiatry, optometry,
osteopathic and veterinary medicine. |

USM Biology courses are taught 100% by knowledgeable, actual faculty, not graduate assistants.
“I believe students need to be challenged and supported in meeting those challenges. In the sciences, we challenge our students to reach their maximum potential.”
