Biomedical Sciences
With the nation facing a growing shortage of physicians, colleges of osteopathic medicine are graduating an increasing number of students each year. If your dream is to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, USM’s biomedical sciences program can offer you a unique path toward realizing your career goals.
USM biomedical sciences program is designed for the best of the university’s pre-osteopathic medicine hopefuls. Participants are accepted into our partner program with Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) in their sophomore year of studies.
As a participant of the partner program, you’ll study under the 3+4 plan, where you’ll matriculate into KCUMB upon completion of your junior year at USM. At KCUMB, you’ll complete a four-year course of studies en route to becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Following your first year at KCUMB, you’ll be awarded your bachelor’s in biomedical sciences from USM.
What’s more, acceptance into the partner program means you’re guaranteed admission to KCUMB without ever having to take the MCAT.
USM’s biomedical sciences program features:
- Small classes that allow professors to give you one-on-one attention to challenge you to realize your full potential
- An emphasis on hands-on laboratory experiences to improve lab and cooperative skills
- Research opportunities for junior and senior undergrads
- Several classes with integrated service-learning components for hands-on application of knowledge gained
- Highly-qualified biology and chemistry faculty will be there to help as you plan your future. Professors will guide you through course selection as well as resume and interview preparation.
Science majors flourish at USM thanks to the hands-on attention and mentoring you will receive from our dedicated faculty.
“The preparation I received in my courses at Saint Mary truly gave me an advantage when I started medical school. My professors at the University of Saint Mary never let me settle for mediocre achievement. They pushed me to find my true ability.”
—Courtney Huhn, 2007 Biology Graduate now in medical school |
