About Saint Mary

If there’s one subject we know at USM it is education. In fact, education is one of two original Saint Mary majors when USM was founded. USM’s interactive and integrative Education degree program prepares future teachers to become excellent value-based educators. Knowledgeable, caring instructors emphasize the political and moral nature of teaching in today’s global society.
But the best benefit of USM’s Education degree program is the distinction you’ll receive from being an Education graduate from the University of Saint Mary. USM’s education program is so well respected by school districts that 88% of our graduates have received teaching positions since 2002.

Accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the USM Education degree program offers a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and a minor in Secondary Education. Elementary Education allows graduates to teach kindergarten through sixth grade and Secondary Education (plus a set major) allows graduates to teach sixth through 12th grade.

Careers in Education:
• Elementary Education

Carol Marinovich
1972 Graduate
Elementary Education

Former Mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan.

Marinovich served as a teacher for Wyandotte County Schools from 197-1981, and then was promoted to Special Education Coordinator for the Unified School District of Wyandotte County until 1995.

“Saint Mary provided me with plenty of actual classroom teaching time. That made it a lot less frightening than it may have been otherwise and I know it prepared me for the tasks of being a teacher.”

88% of our education graduates from the past three years have been placed in teaching positions.

“Our students are out in the classroom throughout their teacher education program,”
