Most people think studying English is all about reading old books. But USM's English program is so much more than that.
Did you know that English is regarded as one of the top undergraduate degrees you can get in our ever-changing, global society? Effective written and verbal communication is essential for any career. At Saint Mary, you’ll discover the art of effective communication as an English major.
USM's English department takes pride in combining the liberal arts tradition of English, which includes studying literature, writing, film, theatre, and media communications with new and traditional thinking. You’ll learn to appreciate culture and language and discover your own thought processes while preparing for diverse careers in education, law, journalism or mass media communications.
Many English majors combine their degree with USM’s pre-professional Communications Concentration in media writing and editing, graphic design, or public relations and promotion. Recent English and Communications Concentration grads work in the mass media as newspaper and magazine journalists, television producers, and news television anchors.
USM English grads also have overwhelming success gaining entry to graduate programs regionally and nationally. |
