Did you know that English is regarded as one of the top undergraduate degrees you can get in our ever changing, global society? Well it is. Effective written and verbal communication is essential for any career. You’ll discover the art of effective communication as an English major at USM.
Most people think studying English is all about reading old, dull books. |
| USM’s English program is so much more than that. USM's English department takes pride in combining the liberal arts tradition of English, which includes studying literature, writing, film, theatre, media communications with new and traditional thinking. You’ll learn to appreciate culture, language, and discover your own thought processes while preparing for diverse careers in education, law, journalism or mass media communications. |
Many English majors combine their degree of study with USM’s pre-professional Communications Concentration in media writing and editing, graphic design, or public relations and promotion. Recent English and Communications Concentration work in the mass media as newspaper and magazine journalists, television producers, news television anchors, and educators.
