  History
 

MAJOR IN HISTORY

  • 30 semester hours in history, including HI 569 Historical Method.
     
  • At least 15 hours of upper-level credit are required. 
     
  • Electives in political science, economics, sociology, geography, literature, and philosophy are strongly recommended. 
     

MINOR IN HISTORY

18 hours, including at least two upper-level courses.


TEACHER CERTIFICATION

  • Students who plan to become history teachers at the secondary level should consult the Teacher Education adviser for history early in their program.
     
  • Secondary teacher certification requires specific major and/or supporting courses not required of all history majors, such as international affairs, a non-western history, History of Kansas, American national and state and local government, geography and economics. 
     
  • Students must apply for admission to the Teacher Education program at the end of their sophomore year.
