  Medical Technology Required Courses
 
FOUR-YEAR PROGRAM

Three years of study at the University of Saint Mary (a minimum of 98 hours) followed by a twelve-month internship in a school of medical technology approved by the NAACLS Board of the American Medical Association. 

After successfully completing the clinical program, students receive 30 credits and earn the degree, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. 

Certification as an M.T. is granted when the registry examination is successfully completed. 

Because clinical programs may vary in specific courses required for admission, students should contact the program they wish to attend for information regarding prerequisites for admission.

 

FIVE-YEAR PROGRAM

A four-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biology. 

Students then enter a twelve-month internship in a school of medical technology approved by the NAACLS Board of the American Medical Association.

After successfully completing the registry examination, students are certified as Registered Medical Technologist.

one course in physiology   or

the two semester sequence BI 258/259 Human Anatomy and Physiology I, II

one college level math course, Ma 210 or Ma 221.

Students must complete all general education requirements for the Bachelor’s degree. 

ADDITIONAL COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 5-YEAR PROGRAM

Students must fulfill the course requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in either Chemistry or Biology.
 

Required:  PHY 215, PHY 216, and NS 597
Highly recommended electives: 
Medical Microbiology
 or BI 320
Special Topics
Instrumental Analysis
Biochemistry

and courses in genetics, management, and information technology.

 

FOUR-YEAR PROGRAM - B.S. IN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

The minimum of thirty credits granted for the fourth year will be taken from the following for students accepted for internship in the Kansas City area Programs of Medical Technology.

Clinical programs may vary somewhat from this pattern; however, a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit will be awarded upon successful completion of the internship
