Pre-Law
The law runs through every aspect of American society, and, as such,
the demand for new lawyers remains strong despite trying economic times.
A legal career offers a wide range of options for your future. The law can
take you everywhere from the corporate world to non-profits to government;
or it could give you the chance to work truly independently, as about a quarter
of all lawyers are self-employed.
But despite high demand, competition both for admission to top flight law
schools and for post-graduate jobs remains fierce. Let the University of
Saint Mary guide you on the path to realizing your career dreams. Our
dedicated and highly-skilled faculty can guide you through course
selection and help you make the contacts necessary for success.
The Saint Mary pre-law program is a flexible course of study that
doesn’t limit you to a single major—although many participants chose
political science, history, sociology, or business. At USM, you’ll
receive a broad-based liberal arts education that emphasizes communications,
reasoning, and critical analysis skills—all important competencies stressed
by the American Bar Association as essential for attaining success in the legal field.
The interdisciplinary pre-law program offers
- A successful track record of placing students in law schools
- Good preparation for any career path—build a solid academic foundation
while exploring your interests
- Highly-qualified faculty that will be there to help as you plan your
future. Professors will shepherd you through resume and interview preparation
and tutoring for graduate entrance exams, including the LSAT
“Saint Mary really takes a unique interest in its students' successes. From day
one, I was never a number, and my advisor and professors were always helping me
achieve my academic and professional goals. My department and professors had a
profound impact on me academically, professionally and personally.”
