In the summer of 2004, the University of Saint Mary took a needed step towards ensuring
the safety and protection of the athletic population with the addition
and hiring of two athletic trainers. For
the first time since the inception of athletics in 1988, the Spires' athletic
department now has two full-time NATA certified athletic trainers on staff, Romotthy Quashie (aka “Q”), and Jessica Gracia begins
her first year with Saint Mary.
Quashie, a native of Trinidad-Tobago,
comes to USM from the University of
Kansas where he received his master’s
degree while working with the Football
and Women’s rowing teams. Previously
he has worked in sports environments
ranging from the New York Jets to the
high school ranks. As
the head trainer, he is responsible
for the supervision of the care and
prevention of injuries for all eight
USM teams. “I
am very happy to be here,” Quashie said. “In
a small college environment you can
get to know your clients better, much
like a family. I
welcome the responsibility of helping
the students achieve their athletic
potential.”
