Living on campus is an integral part of the college experience for many students. To meet the growing demand for modern, on-campus housing, USM built a new residence hall that will provide apartment-style accommodations for 100 students. The $4.8 million dorm opened at the start of the fall 2009 semester.

In 2008, the USM Spires football team played its first home game, thanks to the addition of a new athletic field and bleachers just north of McGilley Field House. The field still needs lights, artificial turf, and an expanded press box.
