  SMART Initiative

The University of Saint Mary has launched the SMART Initiative, a four-year plan to upgrade facilities, provide additional student scholarships, and create more educational opportunities, especially in the health care fields. The Saint Mary Academics and Residence Life for Tomorrow Initiative seeks $10 million in philanthropic funds to help the university better meet the needs of today's students by enhancing campus life and academic programs. Donate to the SMART Initiative.

By investing in the University of Saint Mary, you are empowering students to make better lives for themselves and society.

The five objectives of the SMART initiative are:
  • Complete the university's new, apartment-style residence hall, scheduled to open in time for the Fall 2009 semester
  • Renovate the existing Maria residence hall
  • Enhance the new athletics facilities and field for the Spires football and soccer teams
  • Endow scholarships
  • Expand an already first-class health care program
Facilities The cornerstone of the SMART initiative, the new, $4.8 million apartment-style residence hall, is well underway.
Keep tabs on USM's new residence hall construction with our online news updates.

Scholarships
Financial aid for students is also an essential part of the SMART Initiative. USM has, historically, demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving those capable students who just need a little financial bump to help them realize their college dreams. Consider:
  • At least 95 percent of our students receive financial aid of some kind
  • 35 percent receive Pell grants
  • Nearly half are the first generation of their families to go to college

Gifts of all sizes are welcome. For larger gifts, named scholarship opportunities are available.

Health Care programs USM is home to wide assortment of top-flight health care majors, with our recently re-launched Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree leading the pack.

Saint Mary also offers pre-med, pre-dentistry, pre-physical therapy, and pre-pharmacy paths, degrees in healthcare informatics and clinical laboratory science, an MBA with a health care management concentration, and a certificate in health care management. In the near future, USM will add a Doctorate in Physical Therapy to its list of programs.

Funding the Saint Mary health care programs will mean major benefits for our students—adding high-tech medical teaching equipment, establishing endowed faculty positions, and providing continuing education and other training for our faculty.
