Vice President of Development

General Description:

The University of Saint Mary invites applications for the position of Vice President of Development.

USM seeks an experienced chief development officer with a proven record of successful leadership in fundraising, alumni relations, planned giving, and capital campaigns who can move the university’s fundraising efforts to a higher level. Experience organizing, implementing, and completing one or more significant capital campaigns is expected. The successful candidate will be innovative, energetic, and goal orientated. An understanding and appreciation of Saint Mary’s mission and the ability to articulate the mission are essential

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall fundraising effort of the university.
  • Responsible for the stewardship of donors and moves management.
  • Advises the president in areas of development, fund raising, and alumni relations.
  • Coordinates the president’s fundraising efforts as part of the office’s strategic plan.
  • Directs the development and implementation of short and long range plans for all areas of development.
  • Responsible for recruiting and training of development staff.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation of gifts, accurate reports, and record keeping.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of the development budget.
  • Responsible for the goals of the development department.  
  • Responsible for cultivation and communication with philanthropic foundations, corporations, and individuals as sources of support for university projects.
  • Coordinates with the vice president of marketing and communication on all print materials.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree or related experience
Minimum 5 years of senior level management experience
Strong verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and responsibilities
Teambuilding skills

Requirements:
Requires presentations and speaking before groups
May require long periods of time at computer terminal
Ability to travel
