Am I
required to live on campus?
All full time dependent students under 22 years of age on September 1 of the
academic year are required to live on campus in a Residence Hall while attending
University of Saint Mary, unless the student resides with at least one parent
or legal guardian in the primary residence of that parent or legal guardian.
All requests for exceptions to the housing policy must be made to the President
for Student Life in writing.

What can I bring?
The following basic essentials are recommended for every student moving into
the halls: sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, desk light, alarm clock,
toiletries, wastebasket, and cleaning supplies. Items that will help
make your room a little more like home include: plants, posters,
stereo, television, carpet, curtains, small aquariums, refrigerator (no
larger than 2.5 cubic feet), microwave (no larger than .9 cubic feet),
and a computer. You may want to wait to purchase the above items
until you have coordinated needs with your roommate. Only UL approved "power
strips" that contain internal fuses may be used to obtain additional
electrical outlets.

What
must I leave at home?
Pets (except for fish), candles/incense, firearms or weapons of any type, hotplates,
open element appliances, toaster oven, sun lamp, outside antennae and rice
cookers. Halogen lights of more than 300 watts or those not equipped with protective
cover over the bulb.

How are
hall and roommate assignments made?
Returning students select their rooms during spring term for the following
term. Priority for new student assignments is determined by the date
on which the $100 housing deposit and reservation fee along with the Housing
Application and Personal Data Survey form reaches University of Saint Mary. If
you request to live with a particular person, and that person requests you,
every effort will be made to honor that request. If you do not indicate
a preference, the information on the Housing Application and Personal Data
Survey form will be used to choose a suitable roommate. You should expect
an assignment letter by July 15.

What
if I do not like my assignment?
If you do not get the assignment you want, you may request a change after you
arrive. You can obtain a room change request from your Head Resident. Room
changes are considered during the first two weeks of each term. The number
of requests to change, as well as the availability of space, will determine
your chances for a room transfer.

What
computer services are offered in
the residence halls?
High-speed network connections have been installed in each residence hall room. Students
who want internet access in their rooms must bring a computer with the following
recommended configuration or better:
- Pentium II 266 MHz
- MMX full multi media
- 32Mb RAM
- 4Gb harddrive
- 10/100 network ready
Those of you with a Macintosh
computer need to be sure your computer
is networkable (network card is typically
built-in). If you need a patch cable
you can buy them from the USM bookstore.
Network cards (10/100) can be bought at
most computer stores.

Are private
rooms available?
Most residence hall rooms are designed for double occupancy. Private
room assignments are made on a space available basis (sophomore year or above)
