A registered nurse provides for the primary care needs of the students. This
includes assessment, first aid treatment, monitoring of chronic diseases,
health counseling and disease prevention, and the management of minor illness
with referral to other health professionals as necessary. Saint John's Hospital
is adjacent to the campus.
In addition to helping students with
health care needs, the Health Service
office serves as a point of contact
for health information. Students may
check out books, pamphlets, videos,
etc. for resource material or just
out of interest.
There are two blood drives yearly,
and a flu shot clinic in the fall.
Smoking students are encouraged to
participate in the Great American Smokeout
by signing up and receiving a bag of
free treats to enjoy instead of cigarettes.
Spring break survival kits are given
out to encourage safety during spring
break. During finals week in the fall
and spring, Health Services works with
the counselor and residence halls director
to provide fun, stress-relieving activities.
