The main goal of the Academic Resource Center is to aid students of all abilities in becoming more effective learners. Available to the entire Saint Mary community, the Academic Resource Center helps students improve their performance in the critical academic areas of:
- Reading
- Writing and
- Learning skills.
The Academic Resource Center helps
students in many different ways, including:
- Providing tutoring in specific subject
areas such as Math or Foreign Language
- Serving as a writing center, where
students can bring written assignments
in any stage of completion for a quick,
helpful conference with one of our
staff members
- Provide information on APA and MLA
citation guides.
- Providing many valuable tips about
how to study more effectively
- Conducting workshops and academic
programs for the campus community throughout
the year
- Meeting student needs through alternative
measures, like providing an alternative
testing environment, where a student
can have more time to take the exam,
or helping students to develop college-level
writing skills
In addition to these services, the Academic Resource Center is also a staffed computer lab.
Our machines are the starting point for
many students as they tackle a psychology
paper, or set out to navigate the Internet
to collect research for a history class.
Of course, with our friendly staff readily
at hand, help is always available.
In order to assist our students in achieving
their best academically, the Office of
Student Life and the Academic Resource Center provide
support for students with disabilities. These
offices assist students with obtaining
academic accommodations. All students
who are currently enrolled at USM, who
qualify for services, need to
register their documentation with the
Office of Student Life (Berchmans Hall). After
the paperwork has been evaluated, the
student, with the assistance of the Learning Center,
will create a plan regarding his or her
academic needs for the semester. Students
who do not register their
paperwork and create their plan are
not eligible for academic accommodations.*
