USM’s Master of Arts in Elementary Education offers the same high level of academic excellence as our traditional program with an accelerated pace to allow candidates the ability to complete licensure requirements and a masters degree in two years.

USM offers the only master's program in KC leading to Elementary Education licensure.

Family-Friendly Scheduling

USM’s Master’s degree in elementary education is designed to meet the needs of busy individuals balancing work and family commitments.

We offer:

  • Eight-week accelerated paced courses; two courses per term

  • Each course meets one night per week, with some being offered in a hybrid delivery model (both online and in-class)

  • Semester-long placements in local schools; many options that will be in close proximity to work or home

  • Student teaching is a 14-week full-day intensive experience during your last semester in the program.

  • Transcripts from all undergraduate institutions

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 is required

  • Minimum Scores (one of the following):
    » Pre Professional Skills Test (PPST) — Writing 172, Math, 172, Reading 173 see www.ets/praxis/ks for information on test
    » OR College Base (CBase) Exam — 235 on Writing, English, AND Math

  • Interview with a program advisor

  • Essay

  • Two letters of reference

The University of Saint Mary is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.
