Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology

Graduation Requirements


The USM Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree program calls for completion of one of the three licensure tracks:

  • 48 credit hours, including a 6 credit hour practicum, for Missouri professional counseling

  • 60 credit hours, including a 15 credit hour practicum for Kansas professional counseling

  • 60 credit hours, including a 15 credit hour practicum for masters level psychologist in Kansas


At the completion of your program, you will have satisfied the educational requirements to become either a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Master's Level Psychologist.

Continuous Enrollment

Students admitted to the graduate psychology program must be continuously enrolled during the fall and spring semesters until they graduate. Students who fail to enroll for either the fall or the spring semester will be dismissed from the program unless they receive a leave of absence. Students desiring a leave of absence from the program will need to submit a request to the director of the graduate psychology program stating the reasons for their request. The leave of absence request will need to be approved by the psychology department.
