Family-Friendly Scheduling


USM’s Master’s degree in elementary education is designed to meet the needs of busy individuals balancing work and family commitments.

We offer:

  • Eight-week accelerated paced courses; two courses per term

  • Each course meets one night per week, with some being offered in a hybrid delivery model

  • Semester-long placements in the local schools, many options that will be in close proximity to work or home

  • Student teaching is a 14 week full day intensive experience during your last semester in the program We recommend that you submit your application materials at least three weeks prior to the start of the term.

Application requirements:

The following requirements must be met to be considered for full (Regular) admission to the MA Secondary Education program.

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • An undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Two letters of recommendation.

  • An essay describing the candidate's philosophy of teaching and learning.

  • An interview with the education director or department chair.

  • Passing Scores on the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (CBASE) or equivalent entrance exam.

  • Completion of all general education requirements.

The University of Saint Mary is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.
