Mandatory Check-In / Inventory

Near the end of each semester students must bring their laptop to Information Services for check-in/inventory. At check-in, USM will check the serial numbers of your equipment against our inventory to verify that you still have the same laptop and laptop components that were issued to you during laptop distribution. If your laptop is in for repair, you must bring your loner laptop to check-in.

Students will be notified about the check-in schedule through their USM email accounts and announcements on eSpire. The business office will charge the student account $1500 should they fail to check in their laptop as scheduled.

Stolen or Missing Equipment

In the event that your laptop, or any of its peripherals, is stolen or missing please notify Security at x6446 and Information Services at x6420. You will need to complete a security report and provide a copy to Information Services.

If you are off campus when you discover that your laptop is missing you will need to notify the local police. If your laptop is stolen along with other items as the result of a break-in or auto theft you must include the laptop as one of the items on the police report. You will also need to notify Campus Security and Information Services and provide both departments with a copy of the local police report.

Your account will be charged up to $1500 in the event your laptop or one or more of its peripherals is lost or stolen.
