University of Saint Mary
instituted the student laptop program
in 2003. All of our Full-time
freshmen students enrolled at the Leavenworth
main campus receive a laptop during
their Orientation Week. This fall our students will recieve a Gateway M465-E. more details...
Students are allowed to keep the laptops, even over semester breaks, if they register for at least 12 semester credit hours and pay $500 down towards the subsequent semester's tuition. When you graduate, the laptop is yours.
Returning Students / Transfer Students
If you did not keep your laptop over the semester break, Information Services will store the laptop and re-issue the same laptp to you at the beginning of the semesster.
Full-time
upperclassmen and transfer students
can buy into the program.
They will need a receipt from the business
office before they can register for
a distribution session. The nonrefundable
program charges are as follows:

Laptop Distribution
Student Life will schedule students for laptop distribution and an orientation to the USM campus technology.
Students must bring the following documents
to the distribution session:
- Your USM ID card
- Printed copy of your
class schedule
- Upperclassmen buying
into the program must bring their receipt from the business office
Rights/Responsibilities
Students are required
to sign a Laptop Agreement before
they are issued a laptop. Download Agreement

Mandatory Check-In / Inventory
Near the end of each semester students must
bring their laptop to Information Services for check-in/inventory.
At check-in, USM will check the serial numbers
of your equipment against our inventory
to verify that you still have the same
laptop and laptop components that were
issued to you during laptop distribution.
If your laptop is in for repair, you
must bring your loner laptop to check-in.
Students will be notified
about the check-in schedule through
their USM email accounts and announcements
on eSpire. The business office will
charge the student account $1500 should
they fail to check in their laptop
as scheduled.
Stolen or Missing Equipment
In the event that your
laptop, or any of its peripherals,
is stolen or missing please notify
Security at x6446 and Information Services at x6420. You will need to complete a security report and provide a copy to Information
Services.
If you are off campus
when you discover that your laptop
is missing you will need to notify
the local police. If your laptop is
stolen along with other items as the
result of a break-in or auto theft
you must include the laptop as one
of the items on the police report.
You will also need to notify Campus
Security and Information Services and
provide both departments with a copy
of the local police report.
Your account will be
charged up to $1500 in the event your
laptop or one or more of its peripherals
is lost or stolen.

Account Charges
As noted above, every
student is required to check-in his
or her laptop each semester. Students
that fail to check-in their laptop
during the designated check-in period
will be charged $1500 and a hold will
be placed on their account. Once a
student successfully completes the
check-in process, the $1500 charge
will be removed and a they will be
charged $50 for late processing. The
hold on their account will not be removed
until the $50 late charge is paid.

Fee for Failure to Return Laptop
As per the USM Student
Laptop Agreement, the laptop and all
of its peripherals will be returned
to Information Services within one
business day of a change in the student's
full-time status. The status change
can be the result of the reduction
of classes to a part-time status, withdrawal
or transfer to another institution.
If a student fails to turn in their
laptop and peripherals following a
change in status, they will be charged
$1500 and a hold will be placed on
their account. If a student returns
the laptop and its peripherals before
the beginning of the next semester
the $1500 charge will be reduced to
a $50 processing fee. The hold on their
account will not be removed until the
$50 late charge is paid.

his or her charges pertaining to this
program may do so by contacting the
Director of Information Services at

Transfer of Ownership
The laptop is yours to keep when you graduate. Please contact Information Services before the final check-in and
complete the Transfer of Ownership
Form. Failure to complete this form
will result in a hold placed on your
account and delay the receipt of your
diploma.
