Children's swim classes begin Jan. 3; Water Safety Instructor class begins January
(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The University of Saint Mary offers Red Cross swim lessons for
                        children ages 4 and up, as well as swim lessons for adults with evening classes held
                        every Monday and Wednesday for four weeks in Berchmans Hall indoor heated pool (USM
                        main campus at 4100 South 4th Street in Leavenworth). The cost is $50 for a four-week
                        session (each lesson lasts 30-45 minutes). Enrollment is ongoing. Go to stmary.edu/aquatics for more info.
 
                     
                     The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is also being offered by USM during the spring semester. Candidates must be
                        at least 16 years old by May 2018, and must pass a Level 4 swim test. Upon successful
                        completion of the course, participants will be certified to teach the Parent/Child
                        Aquatics Program and all the levels of the Learn-to-Swim Program. Enrollees will meet
                        the week of Jan.15 to determine future dates and times for classes.
                     
                     
This is one of many courses in USM's College for High School Program. Students can
                        earn both high school and 2 college credits for the same course at a fee of $200.
                        The class is also available to the general public at a non-credit fee of $250. The
                        deadline for registration in the WSI course is Friday, Jan.12. Class size is limited,
                        and early enrollment is encouraged. Contact Aquatics Director Janet Loewenstein at

                     The university also offers ongoing morning and evening aqua-fitness classes for adults. Classes are designed to benefit all fitness levels, with exercises that can be modified to meet specific needs. A hydraulic chair lift is available for those who have difficulty with ladders. These non-impact workouts can improve strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. No swimming skills are required. New sessions begin January 8 and 9.
The cost is $45 for a six-week session, or you can come as your schedule allows for
                        a $5 per class fee.

 - Session 2— 4:45 - 5:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday
 - Session 3— 5:30 - 6:15 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday
