(Leavenworth, Kan.)—Students in the University of Saint Mary Bachelor of Science in Nursing program exceeded national averages on the licensure exam for registered nurses with a 94.83 percent first-time pass rate in 2021.

The nationwide average on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) was 82.48 percent in 2021 – giving Saint Mary a distinct standing among top nursing programs in the country.

The NCLEX is a standardized test used by state regulatory boards to determine if candidates are ready to become licensed as entry-level nurses.

"The University of Saint Mary is incredibly proud of the achievements of our nursing graduates," said Dr. Michelle Birdashaw, nursing division chair and assistant professor of nursing. "USM's pass rate reinforces that our evidence-based education and hands-on experiences provide students with the skills they need to be successful at Saint Mary and beyond."

USM offers several Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education-accredited programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with traditional, accelerated, and RN-to-BSN tracks.
