(Leavenworth, Kan.) – The University of Saint Mary will celebrate the close of another academic year and the achievements of the class of 2023 during a commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. on May 6 in McGilley Field House on USM's Leavenworth Campus, 4100 South 4th Street.
The event will honor the university’s 172 graduates – a group composed of 118 undergraduate degree recipients, 47 master's degree recipients, and seven Doctor of Education degree recipients. The graduates hail from coast to coast and international destinations.
USM will also present a posthumous Bachelor of Science in Sport Management to the family of Justin White. White died in a car accident on Jan. 9.
The university will also honor a faculty member with the Sullivan Award for Teaching Excellence and University Leadership and Service. Saint Mary established the award in 1990. The honor is named after Sister Mary Louise Sullivan, a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth who served Saint Mary for 45 years as a professor and dean. The Sullivan Award is given to a full-time faculty member nominated by students, faculty, and staff as a person who “has made a distinct difference in the teaching climate at the University of Saint Mary.”
The ceremony will feature performances by the University/Community Band and Concert Chorale.
