(Leavenworth, Kansas) – Craig Workman, an assistant professor at the University of Saint Mary, has been selected
to serve on the National Humanities Center’s Teacher Advisory Council. Workman will
be one of the 20 individuals from across the United States to serve on the council
for the 2026-27 academic year.
The Teacher Advisory Council supports the educational programs associated with the
NHC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing humanities studies. Educators
serving on the council are tasked with helping develop, evaluate, and promote educational
materials created by the NHC. They are also responsible for building bridges between
scholars and educators to support humanities’ education.
“It is an honor to be selected alongside a group of talented and dedicated educators
from across the country to innovate the future of humanities-focused education,” Workman
said. “This appointment recognizes the efforts all humanities educators put into their
profession, as well as the support needed to help these programs thrive. I’m excited
to lead and serve other educators as I carry out NHC’s mission of advancing research,
fostering connections, and empowering others.”
Workman currently teaches classes associated with both the English and history programs
at USM. He is the first professor to represent USM on the council since its founding
in 2016.
Experienced teachers from various disciplines serve on the council for one-year terms
to ensure that the NHC consistently engages with relevant and fresh perspectives.
Council members represent K-16 grade levels so that their initiatives are thoroughly
developed for all age groups and learning levels.
The NHC also actively supports educators nationally by providing teaching resources,
such as hosting webinars and the Being Human Festival, as well as offering primary
source collections and other professional development opportunities.
